DOMA Dead!

California's hateful Prop 8 seems dead as well.

Preliminary opinion seems to indicate a great day for human rights in America.

As the commentators weigh in I am fighting back tears -- tears of joy of course.

Supreme Court Ruling Clears Way for Same-Sex Marriage in California

How far we've come:
In a reminder that many religious groups now support gay marriage, the Washington National Cathedral and churches across the country were going to ring their bells at noon Wednesday to celebrate the Supreme Court’s decisions. (Laurie Goodstein, New York Times)

  1. I had my fingers crossed but was skeptical that the Conservative Branch of the SCOTUS (Wingnut Division) would follow law and precedent. I thought they would find some ridiculous reason to uphold this.

What they did to the Voting Rights Act was criminal, frankly, ignoring the fact that it was the Voting Rights Act which kept the Powers That Be in check to begin with. Now, we will have to go through a couple of voting cycles with Voter ID laws (equivalent to a Poll Tax) and discriminatory set ups to get that fixed.

With any luck, frankly, there will be a few funerals along the way but they need to be of Bush era appointees and that is less likely to happen.

Congratulations, Walter! You are now a full fledged citizen of the United States! Sorry it took so long.
